Part 2 of 2 Die-cut
This function of the Cuttlebug allows you to cut out images and shapes using die-cut plates, sold separately. (See image A)

This process is similar to the dry embossing. Simply place plate A as your bottom layer followed by plate B, die-cut plate (with foam side facing up), position your paper and/or medium over the die-cut plate and lastly adding your 2nd B plate as your top layer and feed it through the Cuttlebug. (See image B)

Unlike using punches, the die-cuts allow you to freely cut images anywhere on your material and require very little storage space. The Cuttlebug can go from die-cut to dry emboss within seconds, the process is very simple and the textures and the dimension is just amazing. (See image C)

You should be warned the die-cut does leave quite a deep impression on your cutting plates due to the pressure it sustained during feeding. (See image D) Depending on how often you use the die-cut, over time you will need to replace your cutting plates.

Like the embossing folders, the unit is also compatible with other brand name die-cut plates. This allows for a wider selection of embossing folders and die-cuts.
The die-cut function earns 4 out of 5 stars loosing a star to the impression it leaves on the cutting plates. For the overall functionality and usage and compatibility of the Cuttlebug I have to give 4 out of 5 stars.
For two reasons:
1.The die-cut leaves a deep impression on your cutting plates.
2.The suction support that allows the Cuttlebug to firmly grip the table lost its function after a few use of the machine.
I am aware there is a version 2 of the Cuttlebug which may have addressed the two issues mentioned, my review solely applies to the first generation of the Cuttlebug. Thanks for reading and join me again when we take a look at Fiskars Classic Rotary Trimmer.
Tip: to extend the life of your cutting plates I suggest placing your plates in the following order:
Step1. Plate A
Step2. Die-cut plate
Step3. Paper and/or medium
Step4. Mini self-healing cutting mat (Sold separately)
Step5. Plate B
By using this technique the cutting mat is serving as your 2nd B plate. Perhaps Cuttlebug should make a cutting plate that is made of self-healing cutting mat.
